Introduction

I wanted to crochet a sort of manly looking hat for my boyfriend, but I was unsatisfied with most of the patterns I found that included the "cabled look" I was aiming for. So, I made this one! This pattern could easily be altered and many different types of hats could be made- get creative!

Introduction

This stylin' hat is quick and easy to make.  The simple stitch pattern creates nice drape and an interesting texture.  I needed a hat that  wouldn't look weird or misshapen if I pulled it over my hair bun.  This hat is stretchy and slouchy and looks equally good over big hair or short hair.

Materials List

• One skein (no more than 100 yards) of super bulky weight yarn.  I used Lion Brand Thick n' Quick in "Lemongrass".
• Size N - 10mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle

Finished Size

This hat is very stretchy and is meant to be loose fitting and slouchy.  Hat is sized for adult small (medium, large) with corresponding head circumferences of 20" -21"  (21"- 22",  22"-23").  The (un-stretched)  finished circumference of the hats measure 19" (20", 21") respectively.  My head measures 22" and I can wear either the medium or large size.  The medium size fits more snug to my head, and the large size has a bit more drape to it.  The hat in the photos is size large.  The live model has a 22" head.  The Styrofoam head model has a 21" head.  Each hat is approximately 9" tall.

I know it's no longer wool-hat weather but who among you will argue with the cuteness of this hat?


I saw the pattern here at Knitty and had to make one but you want to hear the sad part? My daughter, my sweet little baby, is officially too "big" for a fish hat and just modeling it here for my picture sent her into rolls of the eyes.

"Mom!" she said as I forced her to put it on for the picture. Yes, forced. So report me, I dare you.

Even the pink wasn't enough to tempt her to wear it but I think it's just adorable.
